Nothing New

9 Mar

There really has been nothing new going on in our lives to write about, so, I thought I’d write about nothing.

Girly Girl has struggled since early Fall with wrist problems related to gymnastics. She did not compete all of last season due to this injury…so, she came to us in December and said she was ready to quit gymnastics because her wrist hurt everytime she came home from practice (to the point of her crying every practice day) and she felt like she needed to work on her grades at school (she had been struggling in Latin). Her last practice was in January — we are officially out of gymnastics. Her grades have seen some improvement and she has turned into a real “tween” and spends most of her time texting her friends…we have to find something for her to do!!!!

Button Boy spent the fall playing Upward Flag Football. It was the first time Frazer had offered it and he jumped at the chance to play. In the beginning of the season he couldn’t catch the football…by the end of the season he was able to catch it and continue running some. He made great improvements!!!

After Christmas Button Boy played Upward Basketball…his favorite! He did very well, even though I don’t think he made a basket all season…he didn’t get frustrated, he just kept his calm and worked every minute of playing time he got.

Button Boy thinks his next sport to take part in will be karate. We are waiting for Spring Break and then will register for that.

For Christmas Button Boy and Mojo got season tickets to Auburn Basketball again. They have thoroughly enjoyed the Da-Da/son time it has given them even though the basketball team sucked! Girly Girl and I decided to go to Auburn Gymnastics again this season, but we didn’t buy season tickets. We have enjoyed the time together….I truly hope that the kids look back on these times and remember them fondly.

Button Boy has not had another EGD since this summer, we plan on having one sometime in March. He has been getting his swallowed FloVent even though he still has some coughing (we think this is part of his EoE). If his next EGD results come back favorable we will be adding Nuts back into his diet….he can’t wait to have a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup!!!

Mojo and I celebrated 15 years of marriage on December 20! It is hard to believe we have been married 15 years…most of those years have been great…but like every marriage we have had our trials. God has blessed us richly!!!

We have several things that we are looking forward to this summer including a trip to Tallahassee, FL, for my college roommate’s wedding and a trip to Sevierville, TN, for a family reunion.

That is our update for now…Hopefully I’ll have some pictures to post soon so everyone can see how much Girly Girl & Button Boy have grown!!!

Exciting Weekend Planned….

27 Sep

…and I can’t wait to tell everyone about it, but for now you’ll have to know that we are going to have a great time this weekend…I’ll hopefully post pictures after it is over!!!

Yip-ee!!!  Can’t wait for Saturday!!!

Are You Ready for Some Football???

1 Sep

Aubie in Jordan-Hare Stadium

In our house we are sooo ready for football!  We love to watch it on t.v. and in person….especially Auburn University and Troy University!

So, here’s to the “Moon Changing into a Football!!!” (a Dr. Johnny Long-ism)

War Eagle!!!  Go Troy!!!

P.S.  We also are ready for the NFL Carolina Panther’s season to start so we can see Camy-Cam play!!!  Go Panthers!!!

Summer has Arrived!

1 Jun

My kiddos have been out of school for two weeks now…I love our private school that they begin a little early and get out very early!!!  (the daily hours are good, too…8am-2:30pm)  So, our summer has begun.

Most days the kiddos are coming to work with Mojo and me.  They seem to be handling the seven hours a day in the office quite well…, but it is just the beginning of the summer.  They are going to their Granddaddy & Grandmommy’s house for a day or so a week, but not everyday.

They begin “Chick-fil-A” Camp this coming Monday.  They will be doing sports and such for those 5 days….I’m looking forward to them being busy, but not looking forward to the having to be in Prattville (about 20 min away from the house) by 7:45 every morning…that makes me have to get up way too early!!!! — but I’ll suffer for their fun!!!

Girly Girl will be going to Auburn’s Gymnastics Camp in a few weeks.  Her first “sleep away from home” camp without me or her Daddy being there with her.  She is beyond excited!!!  I’m excited for her, too….I have great memories of camps and BRLS (Blue Ridge Leaders School) from my childhood and truly want her to have the same fond memories!  It just means she is growing up, and that makes my heart swell!!

Both of the kiddos will be going to a part-day Art Camp also.  This is really to give them something to do and look forward to…my kids aren’t artists, but they enjoy creating art.  Their camps are at different times, so it will be a good thing for them to be separated for a while….you know how brothers & sisters can get if they are cooped up together for too long.  UGH!  That is the part of summer that I DREAD!  The arguing and “He’s picking on me” or “She’s messing with me!”

We take Button Boy to the Eosiniphillic Esophagitis Clinic this coming Monday for a check-up.  He has been doing so well, that I am almost afraid to get his next EGD done, for fear that Cinnamon will come back as a “no go” after him eating it for the past 6 months.  If his EGD biopsies come back okay, then we move onto peanut butter…that means he can have Reese’s again!!!  Yipee!!!  <Happy Dance>

We will be visiting our family in NC for the 4th of July again this summer.  It is always fun to go up to NC and see the family, but I really enjoy the 4th of July trip because we get to go to the parade in Lattimore.  Lattimore is a little township that doesn’t even have a stop light….and they host a truly country parade, complete with tractors and golf carts…and a Mustang Club!  We typically go over to Mojo’s sister’s home for a small cookout — it is always so much fun to get to spend time with Emily, Paul, Jason & Julian….and especially when they make homemade guacamole!!!   🙂

This trip will, hopefully, include a side trip to the BBQ King in Charlotte.  They were featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, one of Girly Girl’s favorite shows.  We have visited them before and loved their food…so, she has requested that we go back…and I”m sure we will!!!!

We have also discussed taking the kiddos to the waterfall where Mojo proposed to me!  It is up on the Blue Ridge Parkway…and lovely…just a more strenuous hike than we are accustomed to, but it will be fun to show the kids where we used to spend just about every weekend when we lived in NC!

I think that updates everyone on what is going on, and coming up!  I hope to have pictures of some activities in the next few weeks — I’ll post them when I get some!

Daily 7’s

23 Feb

I am always looking for tips and suggestions that make housekeeping easier.  I will never pretend to be a perfect homemaker, but I strive everyday to be a better homemaker.

Today I was looking for some slow cooker recipes and found out that a blog I follow A Year of Crockpotting….is now posting on another blog Totally Together.   She had a great post called The Daily 7 for a Highly Successful Household

I love to get ideas to make my house cleaning an easier task…luckily I am already doing a few of her tips.  Mojo and I make our bed every morning (this is a new thing for us, but it makes it so nice to go to bed with straight sheets and not crumpled up sheets!).  I try to keep my sink clean — this is a Fly Lady trick that I attempt to stick with because it is amazing how much cleaner your kitchen feels and looks without dishes all piled up in the sink!!  I try to do a load of laundry every day…my mom always wonders why I am always saying I have laundry to do, but I do….and one load of laundry — washed, dried, folded and put away — a day is a way to help me to keep from drowning in piles and piles of laundry.  The kiddos are becoming better at helping me with laundry also….Girly Girl helps me get clothes washed and dried and she puts away her own clothes….Button Boy helps me pick clothes up and sort (he’s still working on getting this right) darks and lights…., but they are learning!

One thing that I will probably try to begin doing is the daily wipe down in the bathroom.  I really don’t like cleaning the bathroom and it is easy enough to keep Clorox wipes on the counters and wipe down daily….this is a great suggestion!!!

The suggestion that I am the worst at is the Clean Up After yourself and Help Your Children Do the Same.  I get lazy…very lazy.  And you can tell in my house when I get lazy because my shoes are at my chair, not in my room…there is my snuggie in my chair, not folded and put away…there are papers on the kitchen counter, not put in their place…  I do try to remember to clean up after myself, because I want my kids to be better at housekeeping than I am….

My challenge to myself is to take time everyday and clean up after myself and train my kiddos to do a better job of cleaning up after themselves!

Rattling Around My Brain…

2 Feb

So, lately I haven’t had much to blog about.  Not that things are going bad, they are just going steady, so nothing too much to say.  So, to get a blog post in, I thought I’d just give you, my one reader — Hey Mojo!, a glimpse inside my wee little brain…

My Girly Girl is in the fifth grade and I already don’t understand most of her math homework….oh my!  We are in trouble!  What happens when she gets to Algebra?!

Button Boy has found a love of video games.  He has always liked them, but he and Mojo are playing World of WarCraft (or in our house “WoW”)…and I am telling you, if you didn’t interrupt Button Boy he would forget about eating, sleeping, and playing outside!

We are loving our new home, but I didn’t realize how many trees that lose leaves we have….now I do!  We have leaves everywhere…If you know of someone with a leaf blower, please let me know!  🙂

Button Boy went to the new Eosiniphilic Esophagitis clinic in Birmgham at Children’s Hospital on January 9.  The protocol there is going to a little different than the protocol we have been following.  Instead of having a biopsy/EGD every 3 months, we will be having it every 6 months!  Yipee!  Less anesthesia and less stress on my boy!  Currently his diet is only limited by nuts and fish.  He is back on everything else along with an inhaled steroid that he swallows down his throat to coat his esophagus.

One of my dear friends is expecting her first baby, and I can’t be more excited for her and her dear hubby!  Love you, Kimberly and Thad!!!

Girly Girl now has gymnastics 3 times a week!  Friday nights are the worst, though….she goes from 4 – 7 and is absolultely pooped when she gets home!  But boy, it ruins a fun Friday night out for the rest of us, but we will survive…maybe we officially call Friday night “Mexican Night” since she doesn’t like Mexican food!

Speaking of gymnastics…Girly Girl and I have season tickets to Auburn gymnastics again this year….so far we have seen great meets against Georgia (we lost by 1.0 point) and the defending National Champions Alabama (we lost by .075 points).  Auburn is ranked 13th and so far is having a terrific season!  We compete against Florida in February…we are actually taking a friend of ours, who is a huge Florida fan, with us!  Should be fun!!!!

I guess you can see what is up in my life…my kids!  They are such a blessing to me and I am thankful that Mojo and I are lucky enough to be their parents….boy, I didn’t mean for this to get sappy…, but sometimes that happens!

Way to GO, Girly Girl!!

14 Dec

Girly Girl was promoted to Level 4 in gymnastics!  We are so proud of her and her willingness to work hard at something she loves!  Way to go, Girly Girl!  I love you!!!!
